Milos Valent conductor

On authentic instruments. World premiere recordings.
Stereo digital studio recording.

In the first half of last century historian Alojz Miskovic (1902 - 1967) rightly called Podolinec to be "Slovak Oxford". A small town situated not far from majestic High tatras Mountains which only had about 1500 inhabitants in the 18th Century, was a typical student town thank to Piarist monastery and college (1642, 1643). In some years up to 400 students not only from the kingdom of Hungary, but also from more distant regions of Central Europe studied in this town. This picture is confirmed by a number of contemporary testimones, for instance from German traveller K.Unger (1790). Hovever, in the 17th and 18th Century Podolinec was among most important music centres in Slovakia. Well preserved inventories from 17th Century and music collection from 18th Century give evidence that music of highest quality was cultivated in this place. (from text in CD booklet by Ladislav Kacic)
