The complete song output of Vitezslava Kapralova (1915 - 1940) is coming out here in a world premiere recording prepared by American pianist and connoisseur of the composer's work Timothy Cheek. Kapralova was exceptionally talented, a promise which was lamentably cut short by then still incurable acute form of pulmonary TB that proved fatal to the young woman. That notwithstanding, she left to posterity a formidable list of masterly works. Featuring prominently among them are songs, every bit as fascinating, creative, witty, passionate and truly remarkable as was their maker. Her songs were taken up here by Prague National Theatre opera soloist, soprano Dana Buresova, accompanied by the pianist Timothy Cheek.
The project was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Kapralova Society Toronto (Canada), and the Office of the Vice-President and Faculty of Music of The University of Michigan (U.S.A.).
On the whole, this fascinating evidence of a brilliant young talent at work is certain to surprise, and impress, a wide circle of music-lovers.
