The genreless contemplative and dreamy sound of flute, saxophone, trumpet and double bass connects influences of jazz (Uddinghe, Senga°ngare), different kinds of world music, minimalism (Světla a tramvaje), Arabic rhythms (Eleven) and Scandinavian folk music. The majority is instrumental music but there are even two songs where Žofie sings in Czech.
“Peacock Tree was created as my graduation project in 2017. That time I decided that for the band I will choose people regardless of instrument. Musicians with whom I always get goosebumps when we play together and we click in all ways. That created a compositional challenge: a quite unusual setting of instruments (flute, sax, trumpet and double bass) to which I had to adjust my pieces and which, I think, makes it all much more interesting and fun. In my compositions I’m trying to capture the atmosphere of a moment or a situation, a bit like the impressionist painters. I get inspired by the puls of the city as well as the Swedish landscape with its long silent winter nights and long summer days where a sunset can easily take many hours,” says Žofie
