Milan Svoboda's Contraband Jazz Orchestra is now in its 14th year of existence. During the years it has performed at many jazz festivals throughout Europe and has collected several awards at international competitions (e.g. Dortmund, Nürnberg, Mulhouse, Viersen, Wiesen, Regensburg). The Contraband has featured many famous guest soloists including James Moody, Victor Mendoza, Tony Lakatos and Sigi Finkel. So far the group has produced five CDs (Keep It Up, Chrismas Songs And Carols, Live At Viersen, Foam Of The Days and Family) and was recorded live by a number of European TV stations (EBU, WDR, BR3, CT).

The group's lineup has been through several changes. At present it consists of leading personalities of Czech Republic's jazz scene. The musicians perform in other prominent ensembles and a number of them lead their own groups. Major part of the repertoire consists of original music composed by some of the orchestra's members. Compositions by Milan Svoboda, Kryštof Marek, Martin Kumžák and Pavel Pivarči come from a broad musical spectrum. The program that is featured on this recording was performed at the international jazz festival "Jazz Goes To Town" at Hradec Králové in October 2001.
