Camerata Bohemica Prague
Gundi A. Emilsson conductor
Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) wrote his earliest surviving orchestral work in 6 movements – Suite for Strings – in 1877. The composer himself was considerably critical of his work, but despite of that, it was an instant success upon its 1st performance, and has since remained on the repertoire of many a noted international orchestra.
Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Austrian representative of early Romantic style, finished his famous String Quartet No. 14 in 1824 and named it after his quoted song "Death and the Maiden" from 1817. Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) arranged it for string chamber orchestra in 1894.
The Camerata Bohemica Prague string chamber orchestra was formed in 2002, on the initiative of the cellist Tomáš Strašil. A major impulse in the orchestra's development came in the form of its contact with the Icelandic-born (1964) conductor active in Germany and newly in Thailand – Gudni A. Emilsson. In 2005 their long-term regular collaboration started. This is their debut CD.
