The creative career of Miloslav Ištvan (1928-1990) is like a steep and direct road: it has no diversions, no blind alleys - even no rests because each of Ištvan's works offered an opportunity for seeking new methods and dealing with new problems. Ištvan's conviction of the importance of rhythm and colour manifests itself for the last time in Macroworlds - The Four Seasons scored for percussion instruments. The piece was composed for the Dama-Dama, a promising new ensemble at that time. Its posthumous premiere at the International Music Festival in Brno on 4 October 1990 was made possible by Ištvan's son Radomír, a composer as well, who transferred his father's sketch into a score. Fortunately, the composition had been completed and no arrangement was necessary. A year later Macroworlds was awarded the Prize of Czech and Slovak Music Critics.
