In songs, Dvořák's innermost musical poetics matured, projected into the most eminent and most loved works. He was also a precursor of the song creation of the future generation. For a Romantic-oriented composer, songs were a very attractive genre. The small format and scarcity of means were both a contradiction, but also a parallel to the efforts expressed in the romantically exuberant, sensitive and exalted symphonic works and operas. Songs could express an infinite number of shades - sensitivity, emotionality, joy and passion, longing, sadness and hope. Through music, poetry was promoted into the sphere of the most sincere and intimate statements. Since Schubert and Schumann, a song cycle had formed a conceptual whole. Through the sincerity and genuine feelings of a Romantic artist, the sincere and genuine charm of folk poetry was inevitably discovered.
