The seventh double album of the Prague Spring Festival Gold Edition brings together two exceptional festival performances that belong among the most valuable moments in the history of the Prague Spring. The first disc presents Smetana’s Má vlast from the opening concert of 1986, conducted by Wolfgang Sawallisch – a world-renowned conductor and long-standing guest of the festival. His deep affinity for Czech music and experience from leading European stages meet here with the Czech Philharmonic, an orchestra for whom Smetana’s cycle is an integral part of its artistic identity. The result is a performance that combines international perspective with an authentic Czech sound, continuing the tradition that has opened every edition of the festival since 1952.

The second disc features Brahms’s German Requiem from 1987, one of the most significant spiritual works of the 19th century. It is not a liturgical mass but a large-scale cantata on biblical texts in Luther’s translation, focused on offering comfort to the living. Erich Leinsdorf, another major figure of the festival, leads the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Philharmonic Choir in an interpretation marked by precision, inner concentration, and expressive depth. Soloists Roberta Alexander and Thomas Allen add an international dimension and confirm the exceptional artistic level of this recording. Both performances represent encounters of outstanding musicians with music that transcends its time and remains a lasting part of Czech and global cultural heritage.

Sedmé dvojalbum řady Prague Spring Festival Gold Edition spojuje dvě mimořádná festivalová provedení, která patří k nejcennějším momentům historie Pražského jara. První disk přináší Smetanovu Mou vlast ze zahajovacího koncertu roku 1986, kdy se k České filharmonii vrátil Wolfgang Sawallisch – dirigent světového renomé a dlouholetý host festivalu. Jeho hluboký vztah k české hudbě a zkušenost z předních evropských scén se zde setkává s orchestrem, který má Smetanův cyklus pevně zakořeněný ve své interpretační tradici. Výsledkem je provedení, které spojuje mezinárodní rozhled s autentickým českým zvukem a navazuje na tradici, jež od roku 1952 otevírá každý ročník festivalu.

Druhý disk zachycuje Brahmsovo Německé requiem z roku 1987, jedno z nejvýznamnějších duchovních děl 19. století. Nejde o liturgickou mši, ale o rozsáhlou kantátu na biblické texty v Lutherově překladu, zaměřenou na útěchu živým. Erich Leinsdorf, další výrazná osobnost festivalu, zde vede Českou filharmonii a Pražský filharmonický sbor v interpretaci, která spojuje přesnost, vnitřní soustředění a výrazovou hloubku. Sólisté Roberta Alexander a Thomas Allen dodávají nahrávce mezinárodní rozměr a potvrzují její výjimečné postavení v rámci festivalové historie. Obě nahrávky představují setkání špičkových umělců s hudbou, která přesahuje svou dobu a zůstává trvalou součástí české i světové kulturní paměti.
