Maria Gabryś piano
Every performance of Chopin´s music is as an attempt to do justice to this music, an attempt to approach Chopin as a creative artist and human being. The same can be said of the present recording, occasioned by the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birthday. It includes compositions from various phases of his life: from the early Nocturne, Op. 9 to the posthumously published Polonaise in G flat major, the Andante spianto and Polonaise, Op. 22, two Etudes from Op. 25, along with compositions from his mature work---Mazurkas, Op. 30, Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 55, No. 2. The Fantaisie-Impromptu in C sharp minor, Op. 66 is meant as a kind of musical introduction. Maria Gabryś was born in Warsaw to a musical family. Very early on she began learning to play the piano, eventually completing her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw ( with Prof. Teresa Manasterska ) and the Lucerne High School of Music ( Prof. Ivan Klánský ). Since 2005 she has been teaching at the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw while broadening her own studies of authentic interpretation of music for old keyboard instruments with Prof. Jesper Christensen at the Schola Cantorum Music High School in Basle.
