Classical concertante symphonies and concerts for more instruments had, as a rule, the same form as concerts for just one instrument. Within the framework of three movements, alternating solo and tutti sections were performed. Krommer's Concertino in E Flat Major, op.70 is totally different. The solo trio - flute, clarinet and violin - is accompanied only by second violins, violas, cellos, double basses and two French horns. The composition consists of five movements and familiar tutti sections are not present. Even the forte of the whole ensemble is co-created by individually conducted voices of the solo instruments. A smaller number of instruments are reflected in the composition style used quite often in chamber music genres...
Symphony No.1 in F Major, Op.12 was printed by André in 1798. Krommer preserved the classical formal outline. Here and there one comes across characteristic motives known from his later works: harmonic successions often taking advantage of chromatic sequences, alternating of the same letter tonality, jumping into third-related scales...
