Stamic Quartet (Vítězslav Černoch, Jan Pěruška, Josef Kekula, Vladimír Leixner)
Supraphon presents outstanding chamber music with this premiere digital recording of four sextets for flute, oboe and string quartet, three by Pavel Vranický (1756-1808) and one by his brother Antonín (1761-1820). The Vranický brothers composed chiefly in Vienna in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Astute businessmen as well as gifted composers, they were convinced of the necessity of appealing first and foremost to the pampered metropolitan Viennese, and they were experts at it. This recording of their ingenious and listenable sextets features the renowned Stamic Quartet together with the remarkable young oboist Jana Brožková and the experienced flutist Jiří Válek. Stanislav Ondráček prepared the manuscripts for recording, working with original archive materials.
