Vlach Quartet Prague (New Vlach Quartet)

The Vlach Quartet Prague
follows in the rich tradition of Czech chamber music. It is the successor to the famous Vlach Quartet, whose first violinist was Josef Vlach, father of Jana Vlachova. He himself was present at the origin of the new ensemble and had the decisive influence on its artistic growth. The Vlach Quartet Prague (formerly the New Vlach Quartet) originated in 1982. One year later it became prize-winner at the Czech Competition for String Quartets with the prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary czech composition and in 1985 it gained a prize and European primacy in the International Competition for String Quartets in Portsmouth in Great Britain. The Quartet has taken part in international master courses in Switzerland, with Melos Quartet, and in Germany, with F. Beyer, Ch. Poppen and E. Feltz. It holds the Prize of the Czech Society for Chamber Music (1991) and the Czech Music Fund Prize for its recordings of B.Smetana and L.Janacek on CD (1992). The Vlach Quartet Prague has given concerts in most European countries and in USA and recorded for Czech Radio and Television. Its concerts have been broadcast by numerous international radio stations.
Pianist Helena Sucharova went on in her studies at the Roosevelt University in Chicago after her graduation from the Prague Academy of Arts. At present, she lives in the German Jena. As soloist and chamber music player she guest - performed at concerts and festivals in a number of European countries and the U.S.A.
Jakub Waldmann, double - bass player, graduated from the Prague Academy of Arts where he studied in the class of Professor Zdenek Benda. Since 1983 he has been member of Czech Philharmonic. As for the chamber music which he has concentrated on very actively, he succeeded in gaining the best experience under the guidance of Professor Josef Vlach.
