Gideon Klein, one of the most gifted Czech composers of his generation, left a remarkably mature body of chamber music despite his life being cut short in the Terezín ghetto. His works for strings reveal the influence of the Second Viennese School and Leoš Janáček, combined with a strong personal voice and striking emotional clarity.

This recording presents the complete chamber music for strings, from the early modernist pieces of 1938–41 to the concentrated, deeply expressive works written in Terezín. The Kocian Quartet offers a compelling interpretation that highlights both Klein’s artistic growth and the poignancy of his final creative years.

Gideon Klein patří k nejvýraznějším českým skladatelům, jejichž tvorbu tragicky přerušil holocaust. Přestože zemřel ve věku pouhých šestadvaceti let, jeho dochovaná komorní díla pro smyčce ukazují mimořádně vyzrálý talent, ovlivněný Druhou vídeňskou školou i hudebním jazykem Leoše Janáčka.

Nahrávka zachycuje kompletní Kleinovu tvorbu pro smyčcové nástroje – od raných modernistických skladeb z let 1938–41 až po koncentrované, hluboce expresivní kompozice vzniklé v terezínském ghettu. Kocianovo kvarteto podává přesvědčivý a stylově poučený výklad, který zdůrazňuje skladatelův rychlý umělecký růst i naléhavost jeho posledních tvůrčích let.
